Atomic Cantina- Unit 7 Drain

UNIT 7 DRAIN is hard to categorize as this or that, but are, simply put, a rock band. They effectively combine indie rock, punk rock, and what most know to be new wave, to create a highly distorted and layered, yet minimalist, synth-heavy avant rock. Unit 7 drain is reminiscent of bands such as The Cure, Sonic Youth, and Nirvana, yet have created a style that is all their own. Formed in 2000, they have released three LPs (Red Halo, The Suicide Couple, Devices) and a self-titled EP to local critical acclaim. Their latest full length "Lists" was released Oct 6, 2006. The band has been on a myriad of compilation releases as well. Comprised of Harry Redus-Brown (guitar, vocals), Tony Wissing (guitar), Chris Neuman (drums), Ella Vader (bass), and Bobby Tucker "Little Bobby" (synth), Unit 7 drain, while fully capable, makes no attempt to exhibit showy musical virtuosity. Instead they focus attention on melodic but dissonant overlapping of guitars and synth, frenetic percussion, and unexpected musical compositions. The band also makes no attempt to create music that caters to a specific category or audience (some audiences would say they make no attempt to make music at all). To them, formula rock is despicable. As they advise in their liner notes, listen to Unit 7 Drain and listen to THE TEETH OF NOTHING.
