About:

Chamber Music Albuquerque (CMA) has been a major arts partner in New Mexico since 1942. Formerly known as the “June Music Festival,” the organization changed its name in 1997 to more accurately reflect its mission and commitment to the citizens of Albuquerque. (CMA) presents compelling performances of chamber music by internationally acknowledged artists who bring to the region a broad world view. The programming diversity of the artists on the 2006-2007 Season embraces the Euro-American Classical Music repertoire while introducing new works by living composers whose influences are not only drawn from the Western Classical Music traditions but from jazz and folkloric artists, creating a body of works that define a broader definition of chamber music. These efforts to expand programming fall under the rubric of an internationalized understanding of Chamber Music; to celebrate its diversity of style and vitality of performance in the 21st century. Prior to each concert there is a one-hour lecture-demonstration by composer, performer and historian, Dan Haik and/or composer-educator Daniel Davis. All of these events are free.

CMA offers the citizens of the Albuquerque area an opportunity to hear and see these artists at prices far below those of larger metropolitan areas in the country. In addition to and by virtue of a dramatic shift in organizational attitude, CMA presents local chamber music artists of exceptional talent and merit as a means of re-defining the mission of CMA and expanding the audience base for chamber music. Family Concerts are presented – free of charge – to the community featuring many of the visiting artists. These outreach events are presented in collaboration with other presenting organizations in the city and are aimed at adult audience development as well as providing educational programs to youth. This year CMA will collaborate with Outpost Performance Space.
