Dancers of Africa: Photographs by Antoine Tempé

Born in France, Antoine Tempé moved to New York City in 1983. In the early ‘90s, following his initial success documenting the New York night life for European magazines, Antoine started photographing his dancer friends in his studio. He soon began working with various New York based dance companies both on commercial and personal projects, with his photographs appearing in American publications. In 2000 Antoine embarked on a one-year photographic journey through West Africa and Madagascar. From this trip he brought back two different bodies of work currently exhibited under the titles Dancers of Africa and African Journey.
Among other publications Antoine’s work has been featured in Actuel, American Photo, aRude, Danser, Detour, Elle Decoration, French Photo, Graphis Nudes, Le Figaro, Le Monde, Le Monde 2, Marie-Claire, Espana, Max Movement, the Village Voice.
