Bobby McFerrin is one of the natural wonders of the music world. A ten-time Grammy Award winner, he is one of the world’s best-known vocal innovators and improvisers, a world-renowned classical conductor, the creator of “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” one of the most popular songs of the late 20th century, and a passionate spokesman for music education. Joining Bobby McFerrin is the incomparable Voicestra. Comprised of twelve uniquely gifted singers with broad stylistic experience ranging from jazz to R&B to Indian classical opera, Voicestra serves as a rich compositional palate and has evolved into a medium for deeply spiritual and powerful improvisations.

Concert of new and recent works by UNM composers Paul Lombardi and Daniel Davis performed by musicians from the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and others. Vocal and instrumental chamber pieces will be performed including music based on NM folk tunes.

In a fully choreographed theatrical production, the Shaolin Warriors bring the remarkable skill, stunning movement and spectacular imagery of Kung Fu to Popejoy Hall. Performed by the Buddhist monks of the Shaolin Temple, a sect that has become known throughout the world for its disciplined spiritualism and deadly martial-arts prowess, the production features many forms of Shaolin Kung Fu as well as a look at the daily temple life of the monks and their Zen Buddhist philosophy.

Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, North Mississippi All-Stars and Joe Krown have created a lot of music over the years. Now they’ll generate a lot of music all on one stage. Mavis Staples led The Staple Singers (“Respect Yourself,” “I’ll Take You There”) and has become an inspiration in popular music. Eight Grammy nominations and 18 W. C. Handy Awards make Charlie Musselwhite a one-man blues phenomenon. North Mississippi Allstars won three Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Blues Album. New Orleans-style piano and Hammond B-3 player Joe Krown is a favorite of the Crescent City and has won numerous awards for his recordings and performances.
