Sandia Lakes Recreation Area

Location(s)
Sandia Lakes Recreation Area is a carefully maintained multi-use park covering 40 acres of mature cottonwood bosque along the Rio Grande River. Located on NM 313, just north of the intersection of 2nd and 4th streets, it offers an ideal escape from the urban environment. Visitors can enjoy year-round fishing, cool, shaded picnicking, or just strolling on improved trails through one of the oldest bosques in the southwest.
With fishing, wildlife viewing, picnicking, a playground, and a softball field, the Lakes caters to families and groups who are looking for a getaway to nature. The canopy of cottonwoods blocks the sights and sounds of the city, providing a sense of exclusion from the hectic pace of city life and a pleasant recreational experience.
